al-Husayn b. Hibat Allah al-Dimashqi Shafi`i and ash`ari. The famous
historian and
greatest hadith scholar of his time. He
travelled and heard hadith from over 1000 narrators. Authored
several encyclopedic works, among them Tarikh Dimashq.
