Shams al-Din b. 'Abd ar-Rahman ibn 'Umar al-Maqdisi (d. 682), nephew of Muwaffaq al-Din "Ibn Quddama"


Nephew of Muwaffaq al-Din, teacher of al-Nawawi and Ibn Taymiyya. One of hte great commentators of al-Mughni, as well as the text al-Muqni`a and the Mukhtasir   of Imaam al-Khiraqi RH. A very shy and humble man, he had to be forced to assume   the position of grand Qaadi of Syria when it was clear that his knowledge warranted such a promotion. [hts]
