| فأرشَدَني إلى تَرْك المعاصي | شَكَوتُ إلى وكيعٍ سوءَ حِفظي |
| ونورُ اللهِ لا يُهْدَى لِعاص | وأخبرني بأنَّ
العلمَ نور ٌ |

Knowledge is light Al-Waki', one of Imam al-Shafi'i's teachers, related from him that he said: I
complained to Waki` about my poor memory
So he adviced me leave sins And told me that knowledgeis light And Allah's light is not given to a sinner |
